Genesis 2:5-7

What’s evolution? That’s a silly question, isn’t it, because kids in school now know more about Darwinism than they do about God. And that’s because powerful forces are at work to indoctrinate future generations in this government-condoned religion–because that’s what it is. Despite the fact that it positions itself as rational science versus superstitious religion, it is very much a belief system about the religious and philosophical questions of life, every bit as much as any worldview or faith.

“At the time GOD made Earth and Heaven, before any grasses or shrubs had sprouted from the ground—GOD hadn’t yet sent rain on Earth, nor was there anyone around to work the ground (the whole Earth was watered by underground springs)—GOD formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive—a living soul!” (Genesis‬ ‭2:5-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬)

Science is an endeavor to understand and explain the natural world, and ironically, it is faith in a rational Creator that birthed it several hundred years ago, because you cannot practice science if laws are random–if you get a different result every time you examine something! Yet we have progressed; the science we label evolution now not only covers the reproducible and verifiable; it also includes the hypothetical and unverifiable–what some would argue is within the purview of philosophical inquiry, not science at all.

It postulates, then asserts, giving the most specious of justifications for a belief. We are now taught that rather than being specifically designed by an intelligent Creator we are derived from primordial bacteria? Ludicrous! But if we postulate incremental change over a long enough period of time, say billions and billions of years–so much time that the human mind cannot rightly conceptualize it–well, then, the ludicrous can be sold. (Never mind the fact that the world mutates down not up.)

What about a world one hundred percent perfect for the sustenance of human life, so much so that were it even a tiny bit closer or farther away from the sun we could not survive–which practically screams Intelligent Cosmic Designer? From random chance, out of all the possibilities? Absolutely, totally impossible! But how to sell the impossible? Why, postulate a myriad of simultaneous alternate universes, and then what would never be could–maybe, possibly, perhaps–begin to seem potentially conceivable!

Do you see a plan–a strategy? Not a human one, although various human actors–perhaps unwittingly–cooperate in the effort to emancipate ourselves away from a God we are accountable to through their sheer hostility to Him. No, they are pawns; it is a plan of forces unseen and hostile to mankind. “We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world.” (Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭CEV‬‬) And God is permitting it.

Why? Because our reality has a finite past beginning, present reality, and future end, and for those who will bother to examine it, God foretold what’s still going to happen before it’s over: “And that same word of God is keeping heaven and earth that we now have in order to be destroyed by fire. They are being kept for the Judgment Day and the destruction of all who are against God.” (2 Peter‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

What else is going to happen? A lot, but specifically a world system and person empowered by these evil spiritual forces:

“The Man of Evil will come by the power of Satan. He will have great power, and he will do many different false miracles, signs, and wonders. He will use every kind of evil to trick those who are lost. They will die, because they refused to love the truth. (If they loved the truth, they would be saved.) For this reason God sends them something powerful that leads them away from the truth so they will believe a lie. So all those will be judged guilty who did not believe the truth, but enjoyed doing evil.” (2 Thessalonians‬ ‭2:9-12‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

We’re here. I don’t know who this is, or when he’ll be introduced onto the world stage, but the scene has been set. The “something powerful” that God sends which leads those who don’t want to love Him away from the truth–the lie–is here. If everything came about on its own, then we can close ourselves off from the pleadings of those who experienced Someone outside of our reality superimposing Himself into the time and space we inhabit two thousand years ago–and pretend it didn’t happen. We think we’ve invented the perfect lie to emancipate ourselves from accountability to Him.

But we didn’t. He sent it because our world has not only a past and present, but also a future demise, a judgment. Jesus–God stepping down into our reality through the person of His Son, explained that His Spirit “…will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John‬ ‭16:8‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

If you’re reading this today, maybe that’s what’s happening to you right now–maybe He’s convicting you of your sin and guilt before Him; of the righteousness He assigns to us when we renounce it and trust in Jesus; and of the fact that we really are accountable to the God of the universes–that judgment is coming if we want no part of Him. If that’s what’s happening, don’t pass Him up; don’t walk away having unresolved this. Do it now; put your trust in Jesus!

Because, after all, we all believe something–that’s why I called macroevolution a religion. We either believe what’s true, what other human beings saw and experienced first-hand and faithfully passed on to us for our benefit–and even died rather than renounce; or, we can fall for the ludicrous–the lie those who want desperately for there to be no God have already been deluded by. Which will it be?

Dear Lord God,

Help us love and believe truth. Amen.
